Parts of it. Really not my thing, and very much not what I want from a movie that's about the end of the world.

Then again, Thor movies have all taken place on Earth anyway, and there's still no Baldur, so I can't even conceive how they plan to pull this off anyway. Unless they mean Ragnarok as in Clone Thor, which I'm incredibly MEH about as well.

Yeah but it can hardly be worse than TDW, which pretty much decimated the fandom.

TDW would have been so much better if it had been on Asgard and the other realms entirely. I don't get their argument that Asgard is too expensive to do, when Guardians of the Galaxy spent a whole five minutes on Earth.

The Thor movies are kind of like clicking on a fic with Tony in the tags, and then getting a fic that focuses on Justin Hammer instead.

I liked the first one, and yes especially the Asgard parts, I never really thought about why exactly I disliked TDW but the low budget Earth stuff could be it. Because the parts of it on Asgard were stunning visually, and then there's meh Earth parts. Also there's probably the crappy writing and Marvel playing it safe (which is what made me excited about the new director because they're taking a chance this time).

I don't know. I have a feeling they're going to keep playing director musical chairs after what happened with Favreau. I don't really expect the new guy to have any real control, but at the same time, I think he was a really odd choice, and suspect that he was picked because Marvel are having problems keeping their directors around. It was a nail in the coffin, really, but admittedly a pretty big one.

I've also been severely unimpressed with some of the newer movies, and I feel like the franchise has hit shark-jumping level in a lot of ways. I was kind of hoping I'd remain excited about it for a while longer, but like you said, they keep insisting on playing it safe, which is just dull. Ragnarok will probably be okay, but I just have a feeling it won't even be that.

I like what Marvel are doing with the franchise, and how they're handling the different titles and tying them in together, but I also think they're going to drive themselves into the ground with the way they're treating the talent. (If you haven't seen it yet, I strongly recommend Chef. It's Jon Favreau's meta fuck you to Kevin Feige.)

Maybe the treatment of directors will change now that whatshiname is out (sorry, I don't really follow the bts drama that much)?

Oh wow @ the summary of Chef: "A chef who loses his restaurant job starts up a food truck in an effort to reclaim his creative promise, while piecing back together his estranged family."

:/ I hope it wasn't that bad for Favreau.

Unfortunately, seems Marvel will always find someone else to direct or produce a movie. Except Black Panther lol *schadenfreude*

Yeah, Favreau was promised control over the Iron Man series, and slowly lost everything, so he bailed, took a bunch of the cast of Iron Man with him, and made Chef. RDJ's role in it is pretty much how Tony Stark would be without the money, and it's amazing.

The fact that the Thor series has had a new director each time seems a bit telling as well.

I'm sold!

I think Thor is different because the general public shat on both of the movies from the get go. Even though Marvel treat the directors the way they do, a lot of that can get smoothed over with a certain amount of money bags which none of those movies managed to bring in.

Personally, I'm much more worried with what they do to names like Joss Whedon, who did bring in all the bags of money and still got the short end of the stick because his second movie was not as popular as his first.

It's definitely worth it, Nonnie. It's on US Netflix, if you've got it.

And ya know, just a thought, but maybe the Thor movies would have been better recieved if they were about Thor and Asgard. *shrug*

Idk, my perfect Thor movie would be:

Loki: *sheds a tear*
Thor: *manhandles Loki*
Loki: *is spiteful*
Both: *glare at each other, their cheeks getting redder and redder*
on loop

I'm kind of bitter it took until TDW to see any of Loki's actual magic, tbh. I also want to see more of Thor's stupid hat. Not enough silver eagle wings.
