I'm only mildly looking forward to this. If it's more violent than Daredevil, I'll have to pass.

I really hope the rape subplot is going to be handled well. It really is a tough topic and hmm, it's Marvel. But I will reserve my judgement for when it airs.

Also the rough sex thing seems to be handled from female perspective, that's intriguing.

Yeah I am worried about the handling of the rape plot especially as TV has been overloaded with rape storylines in recent years and so many of them were handled poorly.

But reading about that sex scene, having a female showrunner and the fact that Jessica is the main character in the series gives me hope it will be told from her perspective and handled with care. Either way I'm expecting hundreds of think pieces about it and Tumblr wank.

Did the same thing happen after Daredevil episodes became available? I wasn't in the fandom then, watched it like months after.

It will be dissected more just because it has a main female character I'm sure.

I am excited because it has 3 more important female characters though and seems like all of them are queer in some way. I can't even express how awesome that sounds!

I hated the rape and mind control backstory in the original comics and I'm really disappointed it's going to be a big focus in the first season of the show.

I didn't mind it in the comics, but I liked that it was mostly confined to the final arc. It didn't define Jessica as a person.

The fact the show is weaving it into her story in a big way from the beginning is really disappointing. In the show, it seems like it will define her. Boo.

it really does!

what got me the most out of it is the "he's always here" line that jessica says pointing at her head

That trailer made me hate Purple Man, or whoever 10th Doctor is playing, I hope Jessica gets to fuck him up by the end. Looking forward to it even!

Definitely going to watch though.

An interview with JJ actors Erin Moriarty, Eka Darville and Wil Traval:

there's some info on their characters, mostly about how much superhero stuff they're (not) involved in and how dark it's going to be (apparently they wouldn't even joke on set so as not to break the seriousness needed for the show :/).

Everyone in this show is so cute, and the title says it's the darkest Marvel TV show yet! The disconnect...

It's so close! Are you psyched?

How long do you think it's going to take you to watch all of it?

I'm thinking 3 or more days for myself, depends on how dark it's really going to be. I have no problem binging on entire series of a sitcom in a day for example, but usually when it comes to the heavy stuff I need some time between the episodes to process wth happened.

For people who've seen the show, how rapey and gory is it? I'm interested, but there are some things I'd really rather not see.

Re: Jessica Jones Discussion

(Anonymous) 2015-11-23 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
There's no explicit rape on screen, it's mostly about Killgrave's manipulation of people, which is horror of a different kind but still pretty messed up and hard to watch. There is a lot of on-screen violence, and some gore, less than in Daredevil though.

Re: Jessica Jones Discussion - Fandom?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-24 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Has anyone dipped their toes into the fandom? From the look of JJ Ao3 page seems Jess/Trish are the favourite ship. Yay! I'm not checking Tumblr on my own but would love to read some meta (on anyone and anything but Killgrave).
